Global Famine

We first heard of the potential “Global Famine” threat in 2007. Recently the news has come back but this time with very real evidence that it is indeed happening and not just another ‘scientific theory’. In place like the Democratic of Congo and Argentina as well as Pakistan, food prices are surging and is becoming harder and harder to buy. Most middle class/poorer families in those countries are now either spending more on food or have quit buying other luxuries in order to buy tomorrows meal.

People are now being forced to stop buying fresh fruit and veg because its ‘too expensive’. These people are now having to either miss meals, eat less or basically stop buying anything other then food just to survive through this famine. The fact that this famine was prewarned and that we could have taken preventive measures makes it worse. Today you and me the more ‘fortunate’ ones in the world can see in the supermarkets that the price for fruit, veg and rice etc. is rising and not pausing. Pretty soon this famine will feel more realistic to us all personally. To know more I got my information from this article: http://news.ninemsn.com.au/article.aspx?id=1065303

There is also another article on the National Geographic site about ‘The End of Plenty” also about the famine: http://ngm.nationalgeographic.com/2009/06/cheap-food/bourne-text
